Make any plastic fully biodegradable
d2w is Symphony's flagship oxo-biodegradable masterbatch — a proven, scientifically validated technology that converts conventional plastics into water, CO₂, and biomass at end-of-life. Zero microplastics. No process changes. Mandatory compliance in Saudi Arabia and the UAE.

What is d2w?
30 years of proven science
d2w is Symphony Environmental's proprietary oxo-biodegradable masterbatch technology — in continuous development and commercial use for over 30 years, and deployed by manufacturers in 90+ countries worldwide.
Added at just 1% during standard extrusion or moulding, d2w incorporates a carefully balanced package of transition metal catalysts and antioxidants that control both the service life and the end-of-life degradation of the finished plastic product.
Unlike compostable alternatives that require industrial composting infrastructure, d2w-treated plastics biodegrade in the open environment — in landfill, in soil, and on land — within a programmable timescale, converting completely to water, CO₂, and biomass with no microplastic residues.
d2w is the technology mandated by SASO in Saudi Arabia and recognised by ESMA in the UAE — making it the most commercially critical biodegradable plastic standard in the GCC market.
The process
How d2w works
A controlled, four-stage process — from production to complete environmental return.
Mix at 1%
d2w masterbatch is added at 1% by weight during standard extrusion or moulding — no process changes, no new machinery.
Normal service life
The plastic performs identically to conventional material throughout its intended service life. The degradation timer is inactive during use.
Controlled degradation begins
After disposal, heat, light, and oxygen activate the d2w chemistry. The polymer chains break down progressively — not into fragments, but into molecular components.
Complete biodegradation
Microorganisms consume the degraded material. The final products are water, CO₂, and biomass — nothing persistent remains in the environment.
Why d2w
Eight reasons manufacturers choose d2w
Full Biodegradability
d2w converts plastics into water, CO₂, and biomass at end-of-life — leaving no persistent fragments, no microplastics, and no harmful residues in the environment.
Zero Microplastics
Certified to ISO 24187:2023 — d2w does not produce microplastic particles during degradation, distinguishing it from conventional plastics that fragment into persistent pollutants.
No Microplastics brochureProgrammable Degradation
Biodegradation timescale is adjustable from a few months to several years — tailored to the product's intended service life, storage conditions, and regulatory requirements.
1% Drop-In Addition Rate
Just 1% by weight is the recommended addition rate during extrusion. No reformulation, no new equipment, and no changes to your existing production process or tooling.
Regulatory Compliance
Certified to SASO 2879/2016 (Saudi Arabia), ESMA (UAE), and ASTM D6954. Enables manufacturers to meet mandatory oxo-biodegradable requirements in GCC markets.
Food Contact Approved
Compliant with EU Regulation 1935/2004/EC and FDA CFR 21 — fully approved for food-contact packaging including films, bags, and wrapping for fresh and processed food.
Batch Traceability
Every batch carries a unique lot number with full production logs and FTIR-verified quality data — providing complete traceability from manufacture to end-customer.
Local Technical Support
Dedicated onsite technical managers provide application guidance, formulation review, sample analysis, and troubleshooting — ensuring successful integration at your facility.

Applications
d2w is compatible with the vast majority of polyolefin-based plastics — films, bags, rigid packaging, agricultural, and healthcare applications.
Shopping & Carrier Bags
Mandatory oxo-biodegradable compliance in Saudi Arabia, UAE, and GCC retail environments.
Agricultural Films
Mulch films, crop covers, and irrigation films that biodegrade in the field after use.
Food Packaging Films
Wrap, pouches, and bags with food-contact certification and controlled end-of-life.
Refuse & Bin Liners
Waste bags that comply with single-use plastic mandates across the GCC and EU.
Industrial Wrapping
Pallet wrap and stretch film for logistics where post-use collection is impractical.
Consumer Packaging
Retail packaging, shrink wrap, and product films for brand owners requiring sustainability credentials.
Medical & Healthcare
Disposable medical supplies and packaging where controlled biodegradation is required.
Rigid Applications
Caps, closures, trays, and injection-moulded items — d2w is preferred over NbR for rigid formats.

Unique advantage
Combine d2w with d2p protective masterbatch technologies
Symphony is the only supplier that can integrate controlled biodegradability (d2w) with functional plastic protection (d2p) — antimicrobial, anti-insect, flame retardant, and more — in a single masterbatch technology package. No other supplier offers this combination.
d2w + d2p AM
Biodegradable antimicrobial packaging — ideal for food and healthcare applications requiring both sustainability and hygiene performance.
d2w + d2p AI
Biodegradable anti-insect agricultural films — controlled end-of-life combined with sustained pest repellency throughout the growing season.
d2w + d2p RR
Biodegradable rodent-repellent cables and pipes — infrastructure protection that does not create persistent plastic waste after service life.
